Ron Coffey Obituary

J. Ronald Coffey (“Ron”) passed away peacefully with family at his side on June 21,
2022, in Grand Junction, Colorado at the age of 90.
Ron was born in Frontenac, Kansas on March 25, 1932, to Joseph and Vivian
Coffey. After the death of his mother, at the age of four, Ron moved to Gunnison
and was raised by Mike and Mintie Verzuh. After graduating from Gunnison High
School in 1950, Ron attended Colorado State University before serving four years
in the United States Navy. After serving in the military he then attended the
University of Denver.
Ron married Vandy Sunderlin in 1959. In 1966 they moved to Gunnison where
they purchased the MJ Verzuh Insurance Agency. For many years, Ron was an
active member of the Cattlemen’s Days Committee, Gunnison Chamber of
Commerce, and the Gunnison Elks Lodge. Ron enjoyed fishing, was an avid golfer,
and enjoyed spending time with his family. After retiring, Ron and Vandy shared
their time between Gunnison and Grand Junction, Colorado.
Ron is survived by his wife of 62 years Vandy; children Brad Coffey, Christine
Coffey, and Stacey Wallin (Kurt); grandchildren Zach Coffey, Nick Coffey, Ryhan
Barton, Sydney Hutchison, Gabe Wallin, Taylor Wallin, and Everly Wallin; and
great-grandson Eastin Barton.
